"I Love It When A Plan Comes Together!"
Welcome To The A-Team project @ StarCarz.com!
On this page you will see the different stages it takes to build an A-Team replica van.
A lot of time and efforts are being put into this project, initializing March 1st, 2010.
You can find out more as we strive to keep the site updated.
About The Van
I found this "gem" on craigslist.com here in the central Phoenix, Arizona area. It is a
1987 Chevrolet G-20 cargo van, with a 5.7 Litre motor and a 700r4 automatic trans..
This rebuilt motor has 40K miles on it and passed emissions with flying colors. And
the rest of the drivetrain has been well maintained. The body is straight too!
Some of you say, "What's with the "barn yard" doors? I know the show had the
sliding side door, but I wanted more of a show friendly "display" type set up. I wanted
to have the swing out doors so I could have some sort of "show nostalgia" display, to
include a photo shot of the cast, crew, and have a little informational to hang inside the
doors.
These first two photo's are of an A-Team van, probably when the show was still on.
I am not sure that this van is one of the screen used van's or even a "hero" and/or
"lot" van. But whatever the story behind this van is, it is a part of history.
With that said, note that during the run of the series you will see that there were
many different inconsistencies with the van in the show. I won't go into too many
details, but things that have changed from certain scene-to-scene shot's include, the
'moon roof', the backing wall behind the captains chairs, and the body kit. They were
either there in one scene, while in the next they were not. These are just a few of
the more noticeable things in the show. Not a big deal, but enough for some to notice.
Here are a couple of historical photo's...
You may have noticed a few items were either there or not there. So really there is
no set build sheet for the original van, as there were so many tiny differences within
the show. This van is most likely a really close replica with a 95% accuracy as to how
the van looked in the show. However, keep in mind there were/are differences.
Project Updates!
Below are some photo's of the project from Day 1, March, 2010. Keep in mind that
this van will also have a few differences but in effect will hold the same outcome.
For now, Enjoy!
Please keep checking back for more updates as the project comes along.
The first set of photo's above were taken when I dropped the van off with Steve at
ExtremeStreetMachines.net. I managed to buy a new GMC grill for the van, do a few
spot-jobs and remove the exterior spare tire holder prior to dropping it off. And yes,
I managed to get a personalized plate for it. Thanks to Mark in Arkansas for the idea
and his personalized plate, I was able to obtain the same one here in Arizona.

I've managed to stumble upon a set of wheels at the wrecking yard. They are 15x8.5
inches and were on a 1974 Chevy "shag" van. Even though they are not 100% accurate,
they were made by American Racing, known as a form of the vector wheel. These have
13 spokes as opposed to the correct Western Wheels, which had 15 spokes. For now,
they will work as Western Wheel is no longer in business and the wheels are hard to
come by.
Next are some photo's of the initial tear-down of the project. First we removed the
bumpers, mirrors, grill and lights. I also took the time to personally remove the old
carpet and wood floor inside the van, necessary to prepare for painting of the door
jams, interior panels and trim... also makes it easier to install fresh carpet after
the body and paint are complete.
